Describe my position in one sentence? That's an impossible task. In fact, the job is so personalised and varied that I could go on about it for quite a while. Lotus Bakeries Corporate chose to set up a branch in service of internal and external meetings. As office manager of that office, I am responsible for all the organisational aspects involved: welcoming internal and external partners, booking and preparing meeting rooms, providing catering, travel arrangements and transportation, providing office supplies, administrative support to management.... In other words, it's a combination of a hostess role and a practical, organisational role.
For me, the possibility to define the range of tasks yourself and the mutual flexibility are great assets. This in combination with the contact I can have in my position with a very diverse group of people completely won me over.
Why I love doing what I do
The click with the organisation was there from the very first job interview. I can really enjoy being in charge of hospitality and enjoy connecting with so many different people.
My skills as an office manager
In addition to that supportive and communicative nature, accuracy, organisational skills, professionalism and self-leadership are also essential skills. Despite my age of 52, finding a good balance in filling such a varied job was a challenge at first, as was dealing with senior executives. Discretion is also a must in those situations. Competencies that my contact at Bright Plus was very good at assessing were a match for my profile, finding a perfect fit between me and my employer. The delicious cookies in the office are the icing on the cake.
